ABOUT US
This humble organisation was founded by Mr Dumisa Jokozela in 2017 after he saw a gentleman in town carrying a bucket asking to wash people’s cars. When nobody approached him for his services, he said “Let me rather assault someone so that I can be arrested because in jail I am guaranteed a meal” Mr Jokozela was deeply touched by this and he offered him some money. On his was home Mr Jokozela realised that they had members of kwa-Langa who were ex-offenders who were facing similar challenges of not getting jobs when they returned from prison. As a result, they returned to the cycle of crime so that they could have something to eat. With a few members of his community, they started a small soup kitchen to offer meals to these ex-offenders. Within days this number grew tremendously and they quickly realised that they were catering for the community at large who also facing challenges of poverty. They were using their own funds and making use of any donations in kind they could get at the time even though this was not easy.
W HAT W E DO
Abahlobo Ekuhlaleni provides more than 10 260 meals per month. This
figure is evidenced by the database which they diligently keep in their
office. This means that more 500 families in their community depend on
their meals on a daily basis. These meals are served Monday to Friday. This
number is increasing on a daily basis because they do not turn anybody
away especially children who go to them for a warm home cooked meal. We
humbly request your organisation to join us in ridding our community of
the scourge of hunger and poverty. We believe with your intervention we
can continue to fight hunger in our community of kwa-Langa.
